Sizewell C protest march, 15 May 2022

Headlines: Join a two mile protest march from Leiston to Sizewell beach on Sunday 15 May, 10 days ahead of the planning decision. This event is jointly organised by Stop Sizewell C and Together Against Sizewell C.

March; gather from 9.30am in Victory Road Recreation Ground. We will move off by 10am.

Rally: Sizewell Beach from 11.15am 12 noon. Speakers include Adrian Ramsay, Green Party co leader.

Key Details:

  • Marchers should gather at 9.30am in Victory Road Recreation Ground, at the north-eastern end. We will move off by 10am.

  • The march will exit the Rec via the gates onto Waterloo Avenue, and then process along Main Street, past the Library, and the High Street, turning left along Sizewell Road/St George’s Avenue to Lover’s Lane and Sizewell Gap. The distance is a little over 2 miles which is expected to take just over an hour.

  • There will be a rally at Sizewell Beach from 11.15am to 12 noon/12.15 approx.

Participation

  • Please tell – and bring – friends and family. Let us know if you plan to march so we have an idea of numbers. Email info@stopsizewellc.org

  • You are encouraged to bring homemade banners and placards, but we will also provide some.

  • We are liaising with the police to ensure a smooth running safe event, suitable for everyone.

  • Please be respectful of residents in Leiston and Sizewell hamlet.

  • We are sorry if by organising a march some people are prevented from participating. You are warmly encouraged to come to the rally.

Travel, Parking & Logistics

  • Leiston is unfortunately badly served by buses on Sunday mornings but we encourage cycling and car-sharing with friends.

  • Free (Marshalled) parking is available in a field provided by a local landowner up Church Road (IP16 4HL), which is a short walk from Victory Road Rec. See here for directions and details.  To avoid disruption to St Margaret’s congregation, we ask you to aim to be parked up no later than 9.30am and be aware that the field could be muddy if the weather is bad.

  • There are a few official car parks in the town; see  www.my.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/service/Find_my_nearest but be sure to check maximum stay times and fees (eg the Co-op car park is 2 hours only).

  • Coaches will be available after the rally to take marchers back to Leiston. We will endeavour to make this service as efficient and speedy as possible but please be patient as a few round trips may be required (but there are excellent refreshments at Sizewell Tea!)

  • For those unable to march but wishing to attend the rally, please note that Sizewell beach car park charges a fee. Please park considerately, as close to the next vehicle as possible to maximise the available space, and avoid parking on the approach road if possible. All residential driveways and access must be kept clear.
